If you’ve never heard the story of what “Samara” means or why we named our company Samara Capital, let us share the story behind the meaning.
A samara is a maple tree seed, the ones that look like helicopters as they fall from the tree. When we decided to leave our corporate careers, (incredibly three years ago) there was something symbolic of what this seed represented to the journey we were embarking upon.
Within the seed, there are two parts that are needed to successfully grow. The relationship between the two parts is what helps the samara float off and build something new, strong and independent. We like to think of those two parts within the seed as representative of our relationship with you, our clients.
As we reflect on the last few years, by far the most rewarding experience is our time and relationship with you. In every meeting, phone call and interaction, we learn from you and gain so much enjoyment from being part of your life.
While investment performance is important (and we focus on that), our responsibly is more than numbers on a screen. It’s to helping you feel confident and secure in your future as you reach to achieve your own goals and life’s fulfillment. We think about what’s important to you as we make investment decisions. Asking ourselves, what’s the whole story? What do they need most? How will they be better off in the future? And our entire purpose is to deliver on those answers.
This note is to say thank you. To share our appreciation and gratitude for being the other part of the seed. Thank you for allowing us to participate in your life. Thank you for having confidence in us, our word and care for you.
Today the headlines are causing the market to experience Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde swings, but we have a steady hand. We have done the work and thought through each and every holding; what it provides in your portfolio, our confidence in their fundamentals and their ability to make money. We will continue to do so; sometimes we will be patient while other times adjustments may be needed. We have seen challenging markets before and have gotten through them with success.
During this time, when caution is heightened, we also need you. Our ask, is for you to share your concerns with us. We intend to help you through those. And our role is to utilize our knowledge and experience to offer perspective and if needed adjusting the course of action.
Thank you again, for choosing us and allowing us to participate in your story.
Now, back to work (and wash your hands)
